Everton now eyeing sensation signing who Moyes could turn into superstar

Everton are thought to be planning a specific signing in the summer transfer window who David Moyes could turn into a superstar, as The Friedkin Group continue to mean business as the club’s owners.

Latest Everton news

There continues to be a positive feeling at Goodison Park under Moyes, with the Scot making a huge difference since replacing the doomed Sean Dyche earlier in the year.

Everton have pulled well clear of the Premier League relegation zone, alleviating the threat of going down to the Championship for the first time, not to mention securing a dramatic 2-2 draw at home to Liverpool in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison, thanks to James Tarkowski’s memorable stoppage-time equaliser.

Everton managerDavidMoyesbefore the match

It’s now a case of the Blues taking this momentum with them into their new Bramley Moore Dock stadium in the summer, with new signings in the next window required to make them more of a force in the Premier League moving forward.

Tottenham attacker Manor Solomon is one player who has been linked with a move to Everton at the end of the season, with the 25-year-old currently on loan at Leeds United. He has impressed at Elland Road in 2024/25, scoring and assisting seven times apiece in the Championship, and it may be that Spurs allow him to leave on a permanent basis in the summer.

Everton target signing sensation from Championship

According to Football Insider, Everton and Moyes are “expected to dip into the Championship this summer to sign a sensation they can develop into a potential superstar”.

It is stated that the Blues boss “ideally would prefer” to snap up “younger stars from the second division to bolster his squad”, looking at the longer-term picture instead of simply bringing in quick fixes, as has arguably been the case too often recently.

Everton managerDavidMoyesbefore the match

This is a refreshing transfer update to hear from Everton, showing that The Friedkin Group aren’t simply going to eye established players on big money, also focusing on being advocates of youth.

The Blues should be targeting players at various stages of their careers, bringing in experienced heads who can be immediate starters, but also emerging talent with the potential to grow into superstars over time.

Everton have had some special young players throughout history, with Wayne Rooney emerging from the club’s academy to grow into one of the world’s best players, and Jarrad Branthwaite is a current young homegrown hero who has excelled since arriving from Carlisle United back in 2020.

There is some great talent down in the Championship – players who are still maturing as footballers, but who have the potential to be regulars in the Premier League over time – and it is a shrewd approach by Everton and Moyes.

This feels like a pivotal summer for the Blues, having had such a tough few years battling relegation, and if they can nail their transfer business, including signing young talent and making their new home a fortress, the future could look very bright.

Alongside Kinsky: Spurs ace who lost 10/12 duels ruined their trophy hopes

Well, last night was nothing short of a disaster for Tottenham Hotspur.

Ange Postecoglou’s side travelled to Anfield with an incredibly hard-fought 1-0 aggregate lead and a slim but real chance to make it to the League Cup final, but instead of battling to keep that lead or even fighting to extend it, the North Londoners did neither.

Instead, they sat back and watched Liverpool put four past them in a display that might be one of their worst in an already shockingly poor season.

Aside from perhaps Djed Spence and, to a lesser extent, Kevin Danso and Archie Gray, there were dire performances across the pitch for the visitors, but two players stood out for all the wrong reasons, including Antonín Kinský.

Kinský's performance vs Liverpool

In the first leg, Kinský was sublime, and many argued that he was the man of the match for his shot-stopping and skills with the ball at his feet, but that couldn’t have been further from the reality of his performance last night.

The Czech ace was nervous on the ball and, for some reason, seemingly hellbent on never actually catching it in dangerous situations either, constantly punching it unnecessarily and often into danger.

He should have done better for Cody Gakpo’s opener and gave away the penalty for the Reds’ second, and while he did pull off a great save from Mohamed Salah in the first half, it was a night to forget for the 21-year-old.

It might sound harsh, but it’s an opinion shared by football.london’s Alasdair Gold, who awarded him a 4/10 match rating at full-time.

In all, Kinský is still very young for a keeper, and there is every chance he could grow into the number one Spurs need him to be.

However, tonight was an indication that it might take a while for that to happen, and unfortunately for Ange, he wasn’t the only starter to struggle, as Dejan Kulusevski was just as poor.

Kulusevski's performance vs Liverpool

There is no denying that when he’s on form, Kulusevski is one of the best players in the Premier League, let alone at Spurs, but last night was another game in which he was a million miles from his best.

Postecoglou decided to start the former Juventus star off the right despite how well he’s played in midfield this season, and to say he was ineffective would be an understatement.

The Stockholm-born maestro looked almost afraid to take anyone on, and the few times he found himself in a dangerous position, he ended up making the wrong decision.

Again, while this may sound harsh, it’s an opinion shared by Gold, who gave him a potentially kind 5/10 match rating and wrote that he ‘could barely control the ball’ at times, while journalist Hunter Godson pointed out that he looked “shattered.”

Unfortunately for the Swede, his statistics don’t help his case either, as in 93 minutes, he failed to take a single shot on target on a woeful night in front of goal.

He was uncharacteristically poor with the ball at his feet too, failing with four of five dribble attempts, taking just 45 touches and playing only one key pass.

His woes were compounded by his ability to win duels as well, notably losing ten of the 12 he contested at Anfield.

Ultimately, while Kinský was certainly one of Spurs’ worst players last night, Kulusevski was just as poor at the other end of the pitch.

Spurs must regret losing "world-class" PL star who was their original Tel

The talented winger would be great for this Spurs side.

Barbados and West Indies captain Hayley Matthews has said she had no warning that Deandra Dottin was planning to retire from international cricket midway through the Commonwealth Games, and is planning to discuss the matter with her team-mate now that their campaign in Birmingham is over.Matthews, who was appointed as West Indies captain in June, said she was as surprised as anyone by Dottin’s shock announcement via Twitter on Monday, citing concerns over the team environment.Related

“Thankful to Deandra for everything she’s done for West Indies cricket,” Matthews said when asked about her reaction to Dottin’s decision. “She’s obviously been a wonderful player for us over the last couple of years, and it’s sad to see her go, but at the same time if it’s something that she’s ready for, then supporting her 100%.”Matthews said she hadn’t spoken to Dottin before the announcement and that she had “no interpretation” of Dottin’s comments about the team culture and environment.”[I’m] obviously down here representing Barbados and everything, so probably not looking to speak too much on that at the moment,” Matthews said on Wednesday after her side suffered a 100-run defeat against India in their final Group A game. “But yeah, I definitely would have a chat with her and see how things go.”Barbados won their opening match of the Commonwealth Games against Pakistan by 15 runs before losing by nine wickets to gold-medal favourites Australia on Sunday. The following day, Dottin published a letter addressed to Cricket West Indies on Twitter announcing her “formal retirement from the senior women’s West Indies team effective 1st July 2022”. Dottin, who has a contract to play in the Hundred for Manchester Originals and will captain Trinbago Knight Riders in the Women’s CPL, also said that she was “looking forward to playing domestic cricket around the world”.Deandra Dottin in her retirement note said she was looking forward to play domestic cricket around the world•BCCI

“There have been many obstacles during my cricket career that I have had to overcome, however, the current climate and team environment has been non-conducive to my ability to thrive and reignite my passion,” Dottin wrote in her announcement. “With much sadness but without regret, I realise that I am no longer able to adhere to team culture and team environment as it has undermined my ability to perform excellently.”Dottin, the scorer of the fastest century in Women’s T20Is and West Indies’ most-capped international cricketer, having played 124 T20Is and 143 ODIs for them, had a lacklustre Commonwealth Games. She played three T20Is for Barbados, scoring 8, 8 and 0, and taking 1 for 65 from six overs in the tournament. When she juggled a catch running from point to short cover, the ball bouncing out of her hand and onto her chin before she held on at the second grab to dismiss India’s Taniya Bhatia off Matthew’s bowling on Wednesday, the Barbados team-mates shared a laugh and a warm hug. While Matthews said she was “a bit disappointed with the result” against India, she was proud of what her team had achieved with a mix of seven West Indies-capped players among a clutch of players without prior international experience.”I think we put up a really good fight,” Matthews said. “The highlight was our first game against Pakistan and winning one out of three I think is better than a lot of people expected us to do. So although we didn’t have the result we wanted today, I still think we had a great tournament, and the girls were able to learn a lot for sure.”Hopefully spurs West Indies and the entire Caribbean to want to put more into women’s cricket within the Caribbean. I think they’re doing a great job now. We just had our regional tournament, and if over the next couple of years we can continue to grow our domestic set-up, hopefully, we can see some younger players that we had today being able to compete at the highest level.”Having had her first taste of international captaincy with Barbados, who secured a place at the Commonwealth Games on the strength of being T20 Blaze champions in 2019, Matthews was keen to carry on with West Indies.”I would have learned a lot just throughout these three games, taking responsibility and working with a lot of the younger players who weren’t as experienced at this level,” she said. “The support I’ve gotten from the team has been amazing.”You probably think that the pinnacle of the career is if you can lead out your nation or your country, so I think [it was] definitely something I eyed up. But [I’m] just grateful that I’ve been given the opportunity to lead not only Barbados but the region as well and really humbled by it.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Brazilian had a bittersweet outing against Valencia as he missed a penalty at the start of the game. He took the spot-kick in the 12th minute after Kylian Mbappe was brought down by Cesar Tarrega inside the Valencia penalty box. Unfortunately, the winger failed to break the deadlock as Liverpool-bound Giorgi Mamardashvili comfortably saved his feeble effort. He made amends, however, by scoring the equaliser in the 50th minute, but Los Blancos' celebrations were short-lived as Huge Duro scored the winner in injury time.

"Extraordinary" £3m-a-year Arsenal ace now asks agent to find him new club

Arsenal have been rocked as it has emerged that one member of Mikel Arteta’s squad has asked his agents to find him a new club and wants to quit the Emirates Stadium, according to a fresh report.

Arsenal stumble to another draw

The Premier League title is beginning to slip away from Arsenal, as another draw left them in third place in the top flight. A dull 0-0 affair against Everton, in which the Gunners lacked any real invention despite dominating possession, saw them drop two points.

It proved a real missed opportunity for Arteta’s side, with Liverpool also drawing and Manchester City being beaten, leaving Chelsea the only side to gain from the weekend’s action as they moved four points clear of the Gunners with a 2-1 win over Brentford.

He's like Saka: Arsenal actively chasing "one of the best in the world"

Arsenal are looking to refresh their squad and could sign an elite winger.

ByJoe Nuttall Dec 16, 2024

It is clear that something is wrong in north London, despite Mikel Arteta’s insistence that his side deserved all three points.

“Very disappointing not to win the game. We fully deserved to win the game,” he told the BBC. “We conceded no shots. We dominated play. When we generated big chances we didn’t score a goal.”

The Gunners now face a favourable run of games in a bid to try and get their season back on track, including games against relegation candidates Crystal Palace and Ipswich, and they will be hoping that their form can pick up.

As it stands, they have drawn the joint second most games in the top flight (6), form which will not be good enough to see them made champions come the end of the campaign. But they could be set to play the second half of the campaign without a member of their squad.

Defender wants out and asks agents to plan exit

That is according to a shock report from Italy, relayed by Sport Witness, which claims that Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior has asked his agents to “find him a new team”. The Polish defender has appeared 13 times for the Gunners so far this season, and started in Gabriel’s absence during their win over Manchester United and their draw with Fulham.

Signed from Spezia in January 2023, he has been linked with a return to Italy on several occasions since and now is seemingly keen to make that move a reality. According to the report, he “now wants to leave Arsenal” and has “asked his agents to ‘find him a new team’”, with Napoli being the frontrunners for his signature.

Indeed, it is suggested that the “player’s entourage will be in Italy soon to have a meeting with Napoli”, though it is unclear whether it will be discussing a deal in January or in the summer transfer window.

Similarly, there is no mention of a fee for the 24-year-old, who still has almost four years left to run on his £3m a year deal in north London, while Arsenal shelled out £25m to sign him just two years ago, during which time his value is unlikely to have decreased.

Though he has struggled for gametime in north London, his potential was singled out by Polish icon and teammate Robert Lewandowski, who dubbed the defender “extraordinary”.

“Listen to me, this is a real player,” he said. “I noticed it during the warm-up before the match against the Netherlands. In training, it’s very difficult to see certain things. Then I saw him in the match, extraordinary. Really great potential.”

With Arsenal’s defence in something of an injury crisis, a sale would likely need a significant fee in January.

The score finished 2-1, and the result has kept Lopetegui in the dugout for now, as West Ham reportedly decide to give the 58-year-old more time to turn the club’s fortunes around.

“FOR NOW. We do NOT want to make a change,” said a top club source to insider ExWHUemployee (via West Ham Way).

“But we are not stupid and realise we have to improve. Last night was NOT a great performance and long term we have to do better.”

If that stance changes, which could well be the case going by West Ham’s topsy-turvy form over these last three months, then there are options for Tim Steidten and chairman David Sullivan.

Graham Potter is prepared to accept a short-term West Ham contract until the end of the season, with other linked managerial candidates including Sergio Conceicao, Kasper Hjulmand, Roger Schmidt, Thomas Frank, Massimiliano Allegri, Matthias Jaissle and Maurizio Sarri.

Luizao tells West Ham that he wants to leave with January exit expected

In the meantime, a lot of talk will also centre on the ins and outs for January. West Ham have been linked with a new forward for the winter window, among other squad reinforcements, while it is believed some members of the squad could potentially depart.

One of them who is apparently all-but-set to leave is forgotten signing Luizao, with the Brazilian starlet, brought in by David Moyes in 2022, unable to kickstart his career and break into the senior matchday squad.

According to South American news outlet UOL, Luizao is expected to leave West Ham in January, and the east Londoners are prepared to green-light a loan with the option to buy later.

The 22-year-old has expressed his desire to leave the London Stadium and return to Brazil for personal reasons, where clubs in the country’s Serie A have targeted him since the summer.

Called a “fantastic” young defender by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, Luizao’s regrettable stay in England looks likely to end soon.
