Newcastle United: Luke Edwards gives damning takeover update

Luke Edwards has given a rather damning update on the proposed takeover of Newcastle United by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium.

Revealing among a thread of tweets, the Daily Telegraph journalist said:“I’m told the Newcastle Consortium Supporters Ltd (NCSL) legal challenge is flawed on the basis of standing.”

He went on to tweet that the NCSL have to show that they were directly damaged by the failed £300m deal between Mike Ashley and the KSA group, and added that they cannot claim damages on behalf of the chief executive of Sports Direct or indeed the Tyneside club itself.

Edwards also revealed that he had been informed that the letter sent by the Premier League would have had this featured heavily in it, in what could be a big blow to hopes of the takeover eventually going through at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle takeover in doubt

Indeed, this may have put a spanner in the works for the NCSL, especially considering that they tweeted just how confident they were that they could win their dispute with the English top flight.

England’s highest division and indeed its CEO Richard Masters may still be taken to court by the Magpies to settle their legal battle, with Ashley already seemingly having top lawyers ready to represent him, but it is unclear as to what the outcome of this legal battle would be.

Nonetheless, it will certainly be interesting for the Toon Army to see how this all plays out in the end, but this latest update from Edwards has likely knocked the confidence of some fans.

Eze starts, Jeffrey Schlupp dropped: Crystal Palace’s predicted XI vs Leeds

Crystal Palace welcome Leeds United to Selhurst Park in Saturday’s Premier League game showdown as both sides look to bounce back from respective defeats.

Roy Hodgson’s side will hope to get back to winning ways after their away trip to Wolves ended in an embarrassing 2-0 defeat.

The Eagles have won three out of their eight games in all competitions so far and enter this weekend thirteenth in the division, tied with Marcelo Bielsa’s side on 10 points apiece. However, Leeds are ahead of the Eagles on goal difference.

Hodgson will be buoyed by the fact that James McArthur has worked his way back from injury, although Palace will be without Luka Milivojevic, whilst the club captain begins a three-match ban after being sent off in the game against Wolves.

Here at Football FanCast, we’ve predicted how we think Hodgson will set his side up for the clash with the Whites, which sees him make three changes to the team that lost to Wolves.

Vicente Guiata is expected to start Saturday’s Premier League game against Leeds amid fierce competition for places, with Jack Butland spotted in training for the first time since he moved to Selhurst Park from Stoke City.

Christian Benteke made a brief cameo in the 2-0 defeat at Molineux but should stay on the bench, whilst Michy Batshuayi may miss out after failing to find the back of the net in his first five fixtures so far. This means that Jordan Ayew could make another appearance after recovering from coronavirus as he came off the bench against Wolves last week.

Jairo Riedewald is due a rest but is expected to start alongside McArthur, who will most likely replace Milivojevic, with Andros Townsend starting on the right wing.

At the back, Hodgson will have wanted to rotate his centre-backs but injury may force his hand, as there are concerns over Gary Cahill and James Tomkins, whilst left-back Tyrick Mitchell remains a doubt after he took a knock in training.

Summer signing Eberechi Eze should partner Wilfried Zaha on the left flank, which will see Jeffrey Schlupp drop to the bench after a poor performance at Molineux.

Liverpool predicted starting XI to face Sheffield United

Liverpool will be looking to build on their win over Ajax in the Champions League by restoring their form against Sheffield United. The Reds will play host to Chris Wilder’s side who are desperate to claw their way out of the relegation zone. Jurgen Klopp will be equally eager to get three points on the board, so a tense affair could be on the cards.

After Aston Villa’s loss to Leeds, Everton look clear at the top of the Premier League table, something that will be a dismal sight for Liverpool fans. Catching up to their rivals will be a big target for the Reds right now.

Football FanCast has predicted how Klopp might set up to vie for a win over the Blades…

Whilst the news of Virgil van Dijk’s injury will have many fearing the worst, Klopp has potentially dropped a huge boost regarding first choice goalkeeper Alisson. Speaking to the club’s website, the manager refused to rule out any players who were attending training, which could suggest the Brazilian is ready to make his long-awaited comeback.

After an impressive performance against Ajax, Fabinho has shown he is confident in defence. Sheffield will have hoped van Dijk’s absence would mean an easy result but this could be Liverpool’s match to get themselves back into winning ways, thanks to a makeshift yet strong defence.

After making a cameo appearance, it could be time to see Jordan Henderson return to the action for his side. The Reds have missed the captain’s influence and he could be crucial against a side like Wilder’s. Without the leadership of van Dijk, Liverpool will need Henderson giving directions and keeping everything running smoothly from the middle of the park.

The only other predicted change that could be on Klopp’s mind is to bring Takumi Minamino in. His new found central position could bring a whole new dynamic to Liverpool’s attack and he could be a danger when slotting in just behind Roberto Firmino. It could finally be time for the £9m-rated signing to show what he’s really made of.

Rangers target John Lundstram would be the perfect Glen Kamara replacement

Rangers have entered the race to clinch one of the Premier League’s underrated stars as he enters the final year of his contract and with Glen Kamara’s own future up in the air, it could be the perfect move…

What’s the word?

According to The Athletic, Sheffield United midfielder John Lundstram is of interest to Steven Gerrard with the Scottish Premiership front-runners one of several teams monitoring the situation.

The Blades triggered an automatic one-year extension to his current deal but talks over an extension appear to be wavering.

It remains to be seen what sort of fee would tempt Chris Wilder into a sale and much of it could depend on the Yorkshiremen getting John Swift’s £4m move over the line.

Lundstram is currently rated at £7.2m by Transfermarkt.

Bye-bye Kamara?

As audacious as it is, if Rangers can pull this one off, then Ross Wilson should be lauded from the treetops as it would be a phenomenal swoop for a player who’s been regularly featuring in the top-flight this season.

Per WhoScored, the 26-year-old provided five goals and three assists from a predominantly defensive midfield position. His box-to-box abilities are further emphasised when delving into the numbers a bit more – the Liverpudlian averaged 1.4 tackles, 1.3 clearances, 1.3 shots and 2.5 long balls per game.

His Blades teammate Billy Sharp adds further weight to that, describing the 5 foot 11 powerhouse as a “real menace” whilst Wilder has called him an “outstanding” player as well as a “fantastic example of a professional”.

Lundstram’s playing style has been likened to Frank Lampard in the past, which means there’s a bit of Gerrard about him too.

Coincidentally, United like the look of Glen Kamara, who has attracted interest from numerous teams this summer, so could it be a case of one in, one out at Ibrox soon?

The Scottish giants can’t go wrong with Lundstram either way.

Glasgow Rangers: Noel Whelan believes Lille will easily be able to spend £20m on Alfredo Morelos

Much of the recent news surrounding Glasgow Rangers is about Alfredo Morelos, as the forward looks to be on his way out as he has reportedly agreed personal terms with Lille.

The ‘Gers don’t want to let the 24 year-old go for less than £20m and former Aberdeen striker Noel Whelan believes that this fee will not stop the Ligue 1 side from signing the player.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said: “I do not think English clubs want him and that is because of his attitude and his fragile temperament.

“Lille are interested and that is off the back of other teams poaching their players. I am sure they have the money to spend now.

“Rangers will be holding out for about £20million, in that region. That is what a player that scores the amount of goals he does deserves. Sometimes big clubs cannot turn down big offers.”

Whelan is discussing the fact that star Lille striker Victor Osimhen, who has played 38 times in all competitions this campaign and scored 18 goals along with providing six assists (per £55m.

It is hard to disagree with Whelan on the fact that they will easily have the money to spend and, with Morelos scoring 77 goals in 137 ‘Gers appearances, the French side could have found their ideal Osimhen replacement whilst only having to spend less than half of the reported £55m that they could get for the Nigerian striker.

It’s also fair to say that the ‘Gers may not be able to refuse such an offer. The Ibrox club bought the Colombian for only £1.08m and now could sell him and get just under £19m of a profit for him. With this money, they could sign some good replacements and improve the quality of the squad, particularly in attack.

‘Gers fans, what are your thoughts on Whelan’s comments? Let us know in the comments section below!

Everton willing to sell Koeman flop for just £4.5m this summer

Everton are willing to discard Sandro Ramirez this summer after fresh news emerged from Spain earlier in the week.

The 24-year-old has been out on loan at Real Valladolid since the start of the season, his third spell away from Goodison Park in as many years.

Ramirez was originally signed by Ronald Koeman in the summer of 2017 and has only been able to make 16 appearances for the Toffees since.

Valladolid’s director, Miguel Angel Gomez, has been discussing the future of the Spaniard in a recent radio interview with Cadena Ser where he said: “Sandro belongs to Everton, and you have already seen published that they intend to transfer him for around 5-6 million [euros]”

It appears as if the current hierarchy in Merseyside are keen to offload the flop having failed to make his mark at the club.

The fee mentioned by the La Liga club is £4.5m, which is a fraction less of the £5.3m they paid for him from Malaga three years ago.

Carlo Ancelotti has decent forward options at his disposal as he’s able to choose from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Moise Kean on a weekly basis, meaning if Ramirez were to return to Everton, he’d soon become fourth choice – if not worse.

The Toffees have also been linked with a move for AS Roma frontman Patrik Schick, so it’s quite clear to see that there’s simply no future for Ramirez at Goodison Park.

Phil Foden – Profile

Name: Phil Foden

Club: Manchester City

Date of Birth: 28 May 2000

Position: Midfielder (Central/Attacking)

Phil Foden – his career so far

By now, almost everyone knows about Manchester City’s bright young talent that is Phil Foden. The 19-year-old midfielder may not be a regular starter or, at times, even a regular squad player with the Citizens, but he is definitely among the players who are expected to be the big stars of the future.

Pep Guardiola knows it and the footballing world already knows it as well. And the most important thing to note here is that Foden is a Man City product through and through, having joined the club when he was only nine years old and already a big fan of the club. But it didn’t take long for the club officials to recognise the talent and the potential of the kid from Stockport.

After advancing through the ranks and impressing along the way, Foden signed his academy scholarship in 2016 and later that year, he would also get his first senior call-up, sitting on the bench as an unused substitute in Man City’s 1-1 draw with Celtic at the Etihad.

But that was only just the beginning of a long journey towards the first-team of the Citizens. He would also accompany the team in their US tour and would already feature in some of the games as the 2017/18 campaign kicked off. His senior debut happened against Feyenoord in the Champions League in November 2017 and a month later, he became the youngest Englishman to start in a Champions League game as he appeared in the starting XI against Shakhtar Donetsk. His Premier League debut would follow ten days later.

In total, Foden has played 29 games for Man City’s U18 squad, scoring 14 goals and assisting further seven along the way. In the nine games he’s played for the U23s, the young midfielder bagged six goals and five assists.

But even more impressively, despite being only 19 years of age, Foden can already boast with a total of 62 senior team appearances during which he scored and assisted ten goals.

Needless to say, the future certainly looks bright for one of the most talented English footballers of today.

Transfer latest

One thing is clear as day when it comes to Foden’s future at the club – he is not going anywhere and Man City are counting on the 19-year-old midfielder to become one of their most important players in the not so distant future.

For that reason, there are no transfer rumours or Manchester City news currently surrounding the young talent as he looks set to stay and develop at the Etihad. Not only that but it was recently revealed that the Citizens want to find more Fodens in their academy and are hoping to unearth more talents of his calibre soon.

Of course, that is easier said than done but it’s also quite a big testament to the youngster’s talent and the reputation he already has at City. There might be a clean-up at the Etihad in the summer if the recent transfer rumours are true but Foden is unlikely to be a part of it.

Player profile

Foden is a highly creative midfielder who’s capable of both playing the role in the deeper areas of the pitch as well as closer to the opposition’s goal. His biggest strengths lie in his incredible close control and technical ability.

He can be seen deploying pinpoint passes and also beating his man to progress the ball and carry it into the final third and towards the box. These traits were evident during his stay at Man City’s academy and also came to prominence in his senior team exploits to date.

But he also seems to be quite deadly in front of goal, having that eye to rattle the inside of the opposition’s net as well as set his teammates up for success with deadly passing.

With his rather unimposing physique and height, Foden often relies on his supreme skills on the ball to exploit and create space on the pitch. Even at such a young age, he is already showing glimpses of the brilliance that could be unearthed with more grooming and developing.

Celtic: Fans rave over picture of Bobby Lennox in ‘beautiful’ home kit

A lot of Celtic fans were raving over a picture of former player Bobby Lennox and they love the image so much due to both the player and the kit in which he is pictured.

Lennox had a great career at Parkhead, playing for the Hoops from 1961 to 1978, with 304 goals in his 529 appearances, as per thecelticwiki.

He was also a part of the historic ‘Lisbon Lions’ team which won the 1967 European Cup, becoming the first British winners of the competition, and his goalscoring record at the Hoops was so good that it made him the second highest scorer in the club’s history.

Lennox deserves to have represented the club in a great kit and it seems like the one he is wearing in the picture is an absolute hit with many fans, as they replied to wax lyrical about the strip, with one saying ‘Stick three stripes on the shoulders, change the Umbro to Adidas and this would be an all time best seller’, whilst another had one simple word to describe it – ‘Beautiful’.

Tottenham: Fans discuss potential sale of Erik Lamela

Fans of Tottenham have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which poses the question to Spurs fans as to whether they would sell Erik Lamela, should the club be offered £15million for the Argentine.

Since arriving in North London from Roma back in 2013, Lamela has gone on to make 214 appearances for Spurs, scoring 33 goals and providing 47 assists in the process, with four of his goals and six of his assists coming this season.

This season, however, the right-winger has struggled for tie-down a place in the starting XI, as seven of his 17 Premier League appearances have been from the bench.

Due to the lack of game time, a Tottenham fan account recently posed the question to Spurs fans as to whether they would sell the £18million-rated winger, should the club receive an offer of £15million.

In reaction to the post, fans of the club have flocked to have their say on the matter, with many claiming that if Tottenham were offered that kind of money that they should jump at the chance to offload the 28-year-old, while others have stated their belief that he could leave for free as far as they’re concerned.

Aston Villa fans praise Ezri Konsa’s Premier League debut

Although Sunday saw Aston Villa fall to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of West Midlands rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, the performance and Premier League debut from one of the club’s summer signings has got these fans praising their display.

Ezri Konsa, signed from Brentford in a £12m deal, has been resigned to a place on the bench owing to the promising partnership that has been developing between Tyrone Mings and Bjorn Engels. However, the latter’s absence from the match-day squad opened up an opportunity for the 22-year-old to start for Dean Smith’s side for the first time in the league this season.

Konsa was unable to prevent Villa’s defeat to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, with goals from Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez enough to lift the Wanderers to eighth in the table, but these Villa fans were certainly full of praise after an assured display from the former England U21 international.

He may have conceded twice but that didn’t stop supporters from praising his display as the defender posted a tweet thanking the fans.

Here are some of the best reactions following Konsa’s full league debut for Villa.
